Churchill Valley Greenway

Throughout 2022 and in the summer of 2023, I worked with Sarah Moore, an artist and professor of film and media studies at the University of Pittsburgh, to research and document the Churchill Valley Greenway. The greenway was purchased in 2020 by the Allegheny Land Trust, with the goal of preserving and rehabilitating the green space after a decade of abandonment.

Working with ecologist Dr. Patrick Shirey and his team from the department of environmental science, Sarah and I filmed the efforts to study and document the native species, imperiled by harmful development and pollution from nearby metal mining.

With funding from the Pitt 2022 Year of Data and Society and support from the film and media studies department, Sarah and I worked to create hundreds of hours of archival footage and audio to be used in the future by Sarah herself and by students continuing research in the greenway.
